> Is that ok to detect spectator in the picture?

Hello,

Our model has not only detected players but also detected multiple spectators in the image.

However, the ground truth hasn't labeled any spectator boxes, should we just ignore them or find ways to filter them?

Many thanks.

Yes.
The objective of SportsMOT is to only track players on the playground (i.e., except for a number of spectators, referees and coaches) in various sports scenes. Distractors are quite common and unavoidable in real-world applications, and learning to ignore them is part of the tracking task itself.
Detecting distractors other than the players on the court will indeed influence several metrics, for it will incur some false positives. Nevertheless, to our knowledge, detectors at present are strong enough to ignore the distractors. And this problem is easier to cope with than the tracking the objects we detected, or rather association and re-id, which is still the main challenge in MOT.
